About Kent O Smith JR

Kent O Smith JR My photographic journey started with shooting film in high school. I made some good images, and many not so good images. At that younger age, I wasn't disciplined enough to keep a journal of the settings for each shot, so I had a hard time reproducing the good images. Going away to college, life became too busy for photography so I didn't pick up another camera until the digital revolution. After playing with some point & shoots, then some super zoom prosumer cameras, I purchased my first DSLR in 2009. From there, I am self taught, reading numerous books on the basics and then watching hours of YouTube videos. My kit grew to several camera bodies and a collection of the higher end lenses that cover most situations that I shoot. I've been boating and working on boats my whole life, so boats became my first real subject matter. Knowing how the boat moves through the water, I can anticipate the shot before it happens. Action boat photography became my main genre. I've been fortunate to have many cover shots on the Antique & Classic Boat Society's magazine "The Rudder", the Chris Craft Antique Boat Club's "Brass Bell", as well as the covers of other marque groups like the Lyman Boat Owner's Club and the Century Club. My classic boat photos have been featured in many articles as well as commercial ads for Pettit Varnish, Gar Wood Custom Boats and Fish Brothers Marine Service, and featured online on WoodyBoater.com. My next favorite genre is landscape / seascape photography, locally and on the eastern US coast, many of those images are featured here in that collection. I tend to be drawn to long exposures that allow you to see something your natural eyes cannot. Of course, sunsets and sunrises are always favorite subjects. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to view my imagery.
